Dealing with emotions

Today I woke up feeling sad.

Oh come on !! – I thought, I just told my friends last night how much better I was doing lately.

But today, I was feeling uncomfortable and sad. Memories do that sometimes… Fear as well…

I started moving things around ( furnitures, objects,…) And listening to music (classical does the trick usually! )
Suddenly, tears started rolling down my cheeks…
– Thank you piano. It brought comfort and calmed my soul.

My emotions started shifting slowly. So I thought to myself : let it out. Write about it… If I feel like this, others might too…

Sometimes it just happens, emotions come and hit by surprise !
There is no need to make it a big thing BUT I do want to acknowledge it.
Suppressing it would only make it worse…

Okay, so It’s been a week of lockdown here in Belgium and so far I was amazed at how good I’ve been doing and feeling!
Practicing yoga every day, meditation, self awareness, gratitude, connection with friends and loved ones, creativity, focus on the here and now…. BREATHE …

So why ? Why SADNESS are you visiting me today ??

Then I listened to Gary Gorrow’s Instagram Video about ‘Dealing with Emotions’, and it made me feel better. I want to share this with you.
He said:

‘A lot of our shadow is being revealed right now… We’ve got things going on collectively… they’ll often trigger other things in us to wake up. So you get a double hit…
And it’s gonna bring up fears, anxieties, insecurities, self doubt, a whole host of other emotions are gonna start surfacing for people...

So my advice is just to allow those emotions to arrive, to come, but don’t let them consume your mind and your thoughts … don’t impersonalize them, buy into them, perpetuate the story of that emotion, we just wanna come back into our heart, just breathe in the knowing that I’m okay, everything is okay… I’m gonna get through this…

Just learn that, when emotions come, this is a time to practice (mindfulness), this is a gift : Are you smaller than your emotions or are you bigger than your emotions and feelings ?
They (=the emotions and feelings) are an event in us. But they are not us. So we learn to witness them and learn to peer into : what are you coming to teach me ? what are you coming to show me ? …

And so everyone is being asked to do this inner work and as much as it hurts, this work is a blessing. You didn’t come to the planet just to get a job. You came here to wake into your true nature…

We’re spiritual beings having a human experience. Not human beings having occasional spiritual experience…

Now it’s time to reclaim your spirit. And emotions invite you to do that…

Wisdom is not born out of being fine forever…. your resistance to what’s happening right now is generating all your suffering…
Give birth to whatever emotions arising, let them out, and then choose (to) cultivate the opposite of that emotion – that’s Vedic practice… And life’s fun ! ‘
